About Us

The members of the Shop Agents Society are practicing shop agents from commercial property practices all over the UK. They are involved on a day to day basis with lettings, sales, acquisitions, valuations, rent reviews and lease renewals of properties in High Streets and Shopping Centres all over the country and offer a great depth of experience and knowledge about shop property in all its facets. The society was formed to provide the opportunity for those members to share information and to meet to make useful contacts and we hope friends on a regular basis for social, educational or business purposes and to generally to promote the business of shop agency throughout the UK.

Constitution
Shop Agents Society

  1. The Shop Agents Society represents the interests of the membership in connection with the activities of the high-street, edge and out of town retail markets.
  2. Membership is open to all those whose principal business is the professional, agency, development and investment fields of the retail market.
  3. The objects of the Shop Agents Society are to:
    a. Facilitate social contact between members
    b. Further the educational needs of the membership
    c. Represents the membership in matters of professional and national interest.
  4. The Shop Agents Society shall be run by a Committee who shall be principally elected by membership ballot.
  5. The principal officers of the Committee shall be Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary, Membership Secretary, Social Secretary, Sponsorship Officer, Sports Officer and Events Co-ordinator.
  6. Each member of the Committee shall continue in office for a period of four years, after which he or she may offer themselves for re-election.
  7. The office of Chairman shall continue for one year.
  8. The Shop Agents Society is a non-profit making organisation.
  9. The Committee shall employ external accountants and auditors who shall act on behalf of the Society in all financial matters.
  10. The committee shall conduct the affairs of the Shop Agents Society on behalf of the Membership. Any monies raised by activities shall be used for the funding of membership events or donated to appropriate charitable causes at the Committee’s discretion.
  11. The Shop Agents Society shall maintain a VAT-registered status.

“The Shop Agents Society is a not-for-profit membership organisation that represents its members’ interests in retail markets. In order to do this, the Society collates and/or processes “personal data” as defined in the Data Protection Act 1998. All data are processed in accordance with the legislation. Part of our compliance with the legislation is the registration of the purposes for which we process data with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) – the “Notification”. This is available on the Public Register of Data Controllers at www.ico.gov.uk.

We may share personal data with third parties in order to provide certain aspects of our services and/or if we are required to do so by UK law. We do sell the Membership Database to members, but we cannot accept liability for any processing conducted by third parties outside our remit.

As part of our compliance with amended Regulations, we have conducted a Cookie Audit on our website – cookies are text files used by the internet in displaying websites and logins. Some cookies utilised on our site are those placed there by Google to allow us to use google maps for our location. We cannot accept responsibility for any processing such text files may conduct on your system. Other cookies operate the member’s area and are utilised to ensure you have the best experience when visiting the site.
